Bellucci Premium responds to an article that explains different studies and reasons as to why the Mediterranean diet is a good lifestyle choice.

According to the United Academics article published on August 28th titled “Why Is the Mediterranean Diet Good For You?” the diet is modeled on the diets of the Greeks and southern Italians during the 1950s-60s. The article explains how during this point in time, chronic disease was the lowest in these regions.

The article explains how the diet is rich in important fats, such as the omega-3 fatty acids found in olive oil, and low in omega-6 fatty acids. During the time where chronic disease was lowest in Mediterranean countries such as Greece, red meat was only eaten once a week and more fish and vegetables were consumed. Dairy, eggs and poultry were still eaten, but in smaller portions. The Mediterranean lifestyle also included daily exercise, since many individuals worked outside on farms or tended to animals.

There has been abundant research that provides evidence to the claim that the Mediterranean diet can help lower rates of diseases such as Alzheimer’s and heart disease. “These studies have been conducted in different countries and in different ethnic groups, suggesting that the beneficial effects of the Mediterranean diet are transferable to different populations,” says the article.

“Even though the overall lifestyle of the Mediterranean region has changed, there is no reason to stray from the healthy diet that has been successful for many generations,” says Natalie Sexenian, marketing manager for organic olive oil producer Bellucci Premium. “The facts show that the Mediterranean diet is healthy and can also help prevent certain diseases and cardiovascular problems, such as strokes or heart disease.”

Bellucci offers three different types of oil, including an organic option, with a mild peppery flavor and fruity undertones that will satisfy any palate. Bellucci Premium Toscano extra virgin olive oil uses olives that are grown on the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany, and maintained by 3rd and 4th generation farmers. The third type of oil Bellucci produces is the finest 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil, grown in many different regions of Italy.
