The “Leading Edge” Series, Hosted by Jimmy Johnson Educates Its Audience on Surgical Advancements for Brain Tumors
(PRWEB) September 09, 2013 -- For patients with a brain tumor, the diagnosis is a frightening one and the treatment can sometimes seem even scarier. Standard procedure for treatment of a brain tumor involves a combination of radiation, chemotherapy and surgery. The brain is an incredibility complex organ and acts as the center of the human nervous system. Therefore, surgical treatment for brain tumors is complex and involves significant risk.
Neurosurgery is a highly specialized field. Brain surgery is typically the first treatment for a brain tumor and often the only treatment needed for non-cancerous tumors. Though, in the past, brain surgery was more invasive, there have been rapid clinical advancements in recent years.
Advancements in computer-based techniques have allowed surgeons to pinpoint the location of the tumor more accurately while innovations in endoscopic surgery have allowed the surgeon to visualize and excise the tumor using minimally invasive techniques.
“Leading Edge with Jimmy Johnson” will educate the Public Television audience on the advancements in surgical techniques for brain tumors. The “Leading Edge” Series will feature medical professionals and facilities surgically treating patients with Brain Tumors.
The series is distributed to Public Television stations throughout the United States and is not distributed through PBS. Please visit the Leading Edge website at http://www.leadingedgeseries.com or email the producers at info(at)leadingedgeseries(dot)com for more information.
