Leadership Summit Celebrates 10 Years of Education Pioneers
Oakland, California (PRWEB) September 09, 2013 -- Building a workforce to transform education into the best-run sector in the country will require more than recruiting, developing and retaining talented teachers. It also requires identifying and deploying the best leadership and management talent for the nation’s nearly 14,000 school systems and other education organizations—top people who can analyze complex data, build strong and effective systems to support learning and drive innovation.
On September 10, nearly 500 education leaders, executives and CEOs will come together in San Francisco for a day-long leadership summit to focus on high-impact, entrepreneurial strategies to advance results for all students and attract more top people into education. An evening celebration will commemorate Education Pioneers’ first 10 years of work.
The leadership summit, Charting the Path to Best Led and Managed, features top education and business leaders among its key speakers, including Kaya Henderson, chancellor of District of Columbia Public Schools, Rick Hess, director of education policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, Andy Smarick, author of The Urban School System of the Future and partner at Bellwether Education Partners, and Neerav Kingsland, CEO of New Schools for New Orleans. The evening celebration will feature a keynote address by Chip Heath, the New York Times best-selling author of Switch and Made to Stick.
Several Education Pioneers alumni will also speak at the event, including Kristin Richmond, co-founder and CEO of Revolution Foods, and Marisa White Bold, chief of staff at the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Innovation and Improvement.
The summit and evening celebration mark the 10th anniversary of Education Pioneers, a national nonprofit that recruits experts in strategy, finance, operations, data analysis, marketing, human resources, curriculum design, policy analysis and law, among other areas, to serve in leadership positions outside the classroom though selective Fellowship programs.
“Our 10th anniversary is an important accomplishment, but this milestone isn't just about reflecting on the past,” said Scott Morgan, founder and CEO of Education Pioneers. “It's about accelerating change, charging ahead toward transforming education into the best led and managed sector in the U.S., so that all students receive a high-quality education.”
Since Education Pioneers’ founding, more than 2,000 of the organization’s Fellows have brought their unique skill sets to more than 180 education organizations nationwide through the Fellowships. The organization’s goal is to increase that total significantly in the next decade. It will work to attract, prepare, and advance thousands of education leaders, managers and analysts with the goal of 10,000 working full-time in the sector by 2023.
Education Pioneers Fellows work in areas outside of the classroom to help implement or advance important initiatives that directly support teaching and learning success inside the classroom. More than 70 percent of the organization’s alumni in the workforce have remained in the education sector, representing a significant and forward-thinking segment of emerging educational leaders and managers who guide the work of public schooling in school districts and other organizations.
Education Pioneers is also developing more robust support for its alumni network as these leaders and managers transition into greater levels of responsibility in education. The organization is currently focused on raising and earning $30 million to support growth through 2014.
