Former St. John’s Headmaster to Lead Academy of Notre Dame
Tyngsboro, MA (PRWEB) September 11, 2013 -- A national voice and leader in Catholic education, Dr. Albert Shannon has been named Acting President of the Academy of Notre Dame Tyngsboro.
“Dr. Shannon brings an extraordinary background in school leadership, strategic planning and advancement,” said Academy Board Chairman Dan Mansur. “His proven leadership at the elementary, secondary school and higher education levels and his experience, specifically with Catholic schools across the country, will help with our continued success.”
Dr. Shannon is the former Headmaster of St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Massachusetts and has more than 40 years experience in education. He works with Catholic schools nationally on governance, planning and enrollment management. He recently assisted the Academy of Notre Dame Hingham with the development of their strategic plan.

We have a strong and stable foundation from which to build upon. The Academy of Notre Dame is where children learn and young women lead.”
Prior to coming to the Academy of Notre Dame, Dr. Shannon was with Partners in Mission, a full-service consulting firm focused exclusively on developing excellence in Catholic school advancement and leadership.
From 2001 to 2011 he served as President and Headmaster of St John’s Prep in Danvers, the first Catholic layman to hold the position in the history of the school. During his tenure, Dr. Shannon put a renewed emphasis on the school's fundraising initiatives completing a successful $25 million capital campaign. He spearheaded significant changes to the 103 year-old campus, including the opening of a new library; extensive improvements to the school's academic facilities, the integration of state-of-the-art technology throughout the campus and curriculum; and the expansion of the school's playing fields.
Dr. Shannon was president of St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, IN, before coming to St. John's. He began his career as a secondary school teacher and went on to teach and serve as an administrator at St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN, Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ, and St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Shannon holds a BA in English and classics from Marquette University, a master's in education from Boston University and a Ph.D. in secondary school curriculum and administration from Marquette University. He has distinguished himself in professional association and development leadership roles including: The American Council on Education – A Pew Charitable Trust Fellow; National Commission on Presidential Leadership; National Collegiate Athletic Association, President’s Commission; National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities; St. Xavier High School of Louisville, KY and Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, MD where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees.
