A Year of Giving Back to the Community for Tetra Fitness
Austin, TX (PRWEB) September 12, 2013 -- Tetra Fitness, downtown Austin’s all classes group fitness studio known for its “Crazy Fun” and challenging workouts, is celebrating its one year anniversary. But what is significant is that during its first year of operation, the team at Tetra also found time to give back over $35,000 to the community. “We opened Tetra with the goal of helping people transform their fitness and nutrition, but we also wanted to help the community that has helped make us so successful,” says Tetra Co-Owner Kathy Redden. “The people who attend our classes are all amazing people in the community who are doing some incredible things for local charities.”
Over the past year, Tetra Fitness has been working with local Austin Charities such as http://www.champions4Children.org, WeViva (weviva.org), Odyssey Schools (http://www.odysseyschool.com), Beyond Batten Disease Foundation (http://beyondbatten.org), Texas4000.org as well as numerous other organizations to help bring together the fitness community and local charities. The donations consisted of both money raised as well as services donated to help the organizations raise money or provide incentives to donate.
One of Tetra’s Co-Founders, Joe Berti was asked to join the team and run the Boston Marathon. In just a few weeks, the amazing customers of Tetra helped Joe raise over $5600 for champions4children.org, a local Austin charity that is helping kids with rare and undiagnosed diseases. With a turn of events that no one could have imagined, Joe ran through the finish line just before the first of two explosions occurred. He was running for a brave young kid named Drew who has a rare disorder requiring monthly infusions.
“Running for something bigger than me changed how I viewed the race. Because of the turn of events, many people did not get to finish and I was grateful that I was able to finish and give my Boston Medal to Drew after the race. Having a rare disease, Drew is running a much longer and harder race than I. Although I was supposed to inspire Drew, he was the one who inspired me.” At the medal giving ceremony where Joe gave Drew his Boston medal, Drew in turn gave Joe a medal he had just won at a State Gymnastics competition that weekend. The doctors told Drew he would never be able to do sports and he has defied the odds.
Tetra was able to give so much back to the community by working with customers who attend their classes. Take for example Talaya Frazier, founder of champions4children.org who says “Our partnership with Tetra has helped us raise over 5.5k for kids with rare diseases. I enjoy the Sweaty Weights and indoor cycling classes because their classes allow me to be efficient and effective with my time," says Talaya. "The demands of the foundation, motherhood and owning Talaya's Collection require that I choose a workout regimen where I can get high quality workout in smaller amounts of time. Tetra offers that."
The team at Tetra lives by the “it’s a community” mantra and is looking forward to what the years ahead will bring for Tetra and the overall fitness community in Austin.
