Meet WM Phillips, Author of Embrace Unique -The Power of Hope, Humor and Love on the Spectrum; Book signing 10/8/13 at the Aliso Viejo Public Library at 7pm - Help for ASD
Aliso Viejo, CA (PRWEB) September 13, 2013 -- What does a mom do when she sees her son developmentally falling behind the rest of the kids and he is ultimately diagnosed with autism (ASD)? She fights for him with every ounce of courage and compassion. In her first book, WM Phillips takes us with her as she faces each new challenge with determination and we empathize with her as she realizes that parenthood is not what she expected. Embrace Unique - The Power of Hope, Humor and Love on the Spectrum is a true story where the heroine is a Mom fighting to insure that her son has the best life that he can, delighting in the gifts and braving the challenges he has been given. Ms. Phillips accepts the limitations and focuses her attention and appreciation on the positive blessings her child possesses.
Ms. Phillips brings her experience as a Social Worker, as the President of the Board of Directors of a school for students with Aspergers and high functioning autism, and as the mom of an 18 year old with autism. Her humorous and real talk style of writing helps the reader understand the challenges and offers support for caregivers, extended family and professionals. Her advice is "Hope, Laugh, Love, Repeat!"

About the Author:
WM Phillips is an author, speaker, wife and mom to an amazing autistic son. She recently spoke at the Autism Conference of America in Pasadena, California where Temple Grandin was also a guest speaker. After earning her BA from UCLA, she went on to complete her Masters in Social Work at SDSU. She worked with abused and neglected children as a county social worker, as an Advocate for children in the courts, directed a shelter for runaway and homeless Youth and currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for a school for autistic children. Working with, and on behalf of children has always been her passion.
When her own son was in preschool, she saw signs that he was not keeping up with his peers verbally or developmentally. It was 1998 and not much was known about Aspergers which today is identified as being on the autistic spectrum or having autistic spectrum disorder (ASD). She has spent the last 18 years on a personal journey to support her son, and others like him, as they navigate the often turbulent waters of Autism. Her philosophy is with hope, humor and love anything is possible.
WM Phillips grew up in Southern California, where she still resides with her husband, son and mini Labra doodle. In her spare time she loves to travel.
