New Direct Project Feature in Corepoint Integration Engine Simplifies External Health Data Exchange
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) September 10, 2013 -- The latest version of Corepoint Health’s top-rated Corepoint Integration Engine software now offers the Direct Project protocol, a communication standard that allows healthcare providers to easily exchange health data with external organizations and to meet the government’s meaningful use requirements.
Direct Project protocol, often described as secure email, allows healthcare providers to send and receive health data in a variety of formats such as Consolidated CDA (CCD), HL7 v2 and DICOM. The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) requires all meaningful use stage 2-certified complete EHRs to support the Direct protocol, making it the “minimum threshold” communication method for exchanging health data.
Meaningful use is a term associated with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, a government incentive program designed to modernize patient health data through the use and exchange of certified electronic health records.
Mike Vita, Senior Integration Manager at Southampton (N.Y.) Hospital, said using Direct protocol through Corepoint Integration Engine will simplify the typically complicated process of exchanging health data with external health organizations, which has the potential to save the organization money and improve patient care.
“Corepoint Integration Engine is at the center of all our health data activities. Exchanging health data with smaller, external facilities can often be difficult and costly. Direct’s ease of use and the features native to Corepoint Integration Engine will allow us to form many more regional data exchange partnerships,” Vita said. “The more external partners we have will only improve medical care for patients in the area, which I believe is the true reason behind meaningful use.”
Other major features in the latest version include:
• Unified Certificate Management. Store public and private encryption certificates in Corepoint Integration Engine, making them available to all types of connections.
• Connection Schedules. Schedule dates and times that specified interfaces will operate.
• Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 Support. Utilizing the latest versions of Microsoft Windows provides greater security and support for updated features.
“The ability to schedule connections is extremely useful,” Vita said. “There are a few interfaces that we only run at specified times each day. We’re now able to specify a time to activate those connections, minimizing the number of connection downtime alerts we get through Corepoint Integration Engine. This rather simple enhancement is another reason why we love Corepoint Health – they listen to their customers and improve their products based on user recommendations.”
Phil Guy, CEO of Corepoint Health, said every new feature in version 5.1 of Corepoint Integration Engine is a result of face-to-face consultation and feedback from customers from across the country who represent health care providers of all sizes – from clinics to major, regional health systems.
“A key value for the Corepoint Health team is placing customers at the center of everything we do,” Guy said. “Before we begin working on any product update or modification, we always ask ourselves, ‘How is this going to help our customers?’ This release continues to demonstrate that our products are designed to help our customers continue to have success in their data exchange activities.”
