The article, Foreign Students’ Input Gets Top Marks, published 3rd September, explains that the report, entitled Richer for It, was compiled by Universities Scotland, the representative body of the country’s 19 higher education institutions. It argues that the cultural and social contribution of foreign students is just as valuable as the economic boost they provide. Worth an estimated £337 in fees each year and £441million in wider expenditure, the organisation believes that international students also help to build a large network of alumni across the globe who maintain strong connections to Scotland.

Sir Ian Diamond, Chair of Universities Scotland’s International Committee and Principal of Aberdeen University Professor, sums up the pledge, claiming that “the true value of international students is much greater than can be quantified in monetary terms alone.”

Renowned for their flexible and efficient student removals services, Interdean are on hand to help international students leaving the UK to start courses overseas and vice versa. As such they are more than familiar with the experiences gained by studying abroad. A representative gives their views on the benefits to wider society from international students.

“As well as the money received by the universities in tuition fees, there is the money spent in the local community by these students. On top of this however, they bring diversity in culture, providing a great atmosphere to learn in. Enjoying new opportunities and experiences whilst meeting new people, it is not hard to see why students choose to study overseas.”

The report is to be presented to MPs at Westminster at a time when the government is considering restricting numbers of foreign students.
