Foundation Financial Group Helps Improve Technology for Disabled American Veterans
Jacksonville, Florida (PRWEB) September 11, 2013 -- Foundation Financial Group has continued its support of Disabled American Veterans, an organization that works to get veterans the benefits and assistance they need. Foundation Financial’s Information Technology Division donated computers and time to help the DAV take care of America’s veterans.
“Back in July while we were working on the patio, the Commander of the Jacksonville DAV, Robert Young, mentioned that they might need some IT help, and I am so glad that FFG was able to provide it,” said FFG Event Coordinator Tad Kellermann. “The computers at the DAV headquarters were about a decade old and took more than 10 minutes to restart. The outdated technology couldn’t handle the complex data that the DAV must use to help veterans navigate the US Department of Veterans Affairs.”
The IT Division of Foundation Financial Group donated computers to the Disabled American Veterans. Kellerman, a volunteer from the IT Division, brought the computers to the DAV Headquarters to make sure the transition went smoothly. He installed the proprietary software system that tracks the VA data. The VA data took a few hours to successfully migrate.
After the changeover was complete, Kellerman explored the new setup with Young and offered computer advice. The most important recommendation he gave was regularly backing up files and data to prevent a crisis in the event of a computer crash. To emphasize how essential backups are, Kellerman made copies of the DAV data on a separate storage device. Kellerman will follow up with Young to ensure that the DAV’s technology is running smoothly.
“With our donations and volunteer work, the Disabled American Veterans organization can continue to improve the myriad of services they offer to veterans and their families,” continued Kellerman. “Foundation Financial Group also hopes that other corporations will be inspired to contribute to the DAV’s worthy cause.”
Disabled American Veterans has been empowering veterans to lead healthy and successful lives after concluding their military service. The organization provides free professional assistance to all veterans and their families in obtaining benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The DAV also advocates for veteran rights on Capitol Hill, aiming to expedite acceptance of emerging medical conditions. Each year the nonprofit provides assistance with more than 300,000 claims for VA benefits throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
