Chino Valley Ranchers Heads to Washington D.C. to Gather Support for 2013 Farm Bill
Colton, California (PRWEB) September 13, 2013 -- During the Spring of 2013, delegates from the Organic Trade Association (OTA), including members from Chino Valley Ranchers, descended upon Washington D.C. to both show and build support for the 2013 Farm Bill, as well as to address funding and awareness for the National Organic Program. The 2013 bill deals with various agriculture and agribusiness related issues, including oversight, production standards, EPA issues and food safety, all of which affect standard and organic food producers from every state. The National Organic Program (NOP) is the federal regulatory framework specifically governing organic food, and it is also the name of the organization responsible for administering and enforcing the developing framework. The Organic Food Production Act of 1990 required that the USDA develop national standards for organic products, and as those take shape, it is in the best interest of organic growers, including Chino Valley Ranchers, to make their voice heard among legislatures, non-profits and NGOs. David Will, General Manager of Chino Valley Ranchers, was among the OTA delegates who went to Washington to make their voices heard.
The Organic Trade Association (OTA) is the membership-based business association for the organic industry in North America. OTA’s mission is to promote and protect organic trade to benefit the environment, farmers, the public, and the economy. OTA envisions organic products becoming a significant part of everyday life, enhancing people's lives and the environment. OTA represents businesses across the organic supply chain and addresses all things organic, including food, fiber, textiles, personal care products, and new sectors as they develop. Over sixty percent of OTA trade members are small businesses.
David Will, General Manager of California-based Chino Valley Ranchers, talked about the visit, "According to House Congressman Frank D. Lucas (R-OK), the Farm Bill, 'affects every American; ensuring that our farmers and ranchers have the tools they need to produce an abundant and affordable food and fiber supply.'" Will continued, "We not only went to Washington to speak for organic growers like Chino Valley Ranchers, but for every American who depends on our farmers to manage a safe, affordable food supply."
