Omega3 Innovations received its second stamp of recognition for "innovation" this month, this time coming from STEMsmart, a regional initiative of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation dedicated to increasing the number of students involved in science, technology, engineering and math.
Only days before, Omega3 Innovations’ co-founders, Drs. Bo Martinsen and Anne-Marie Chalmers, had been featured in Biz941’s 20 People to Watch issue, where the physicians were noted for their innovative approach to producing fresh fish oil products.
"We are proud that the community is becoming more aware of the difference truly fresh, full-spectrum omega-3 supplements can make," said Chalmers. "To be recognized by STEMsmart is truly an honor."
According to Teri A Hansen, president|CEO of Gulf Coast Community Foundation, "The STEMsmart Innovation Award recognizes businesses that creatively use the principles of STEM to take on a challenge, and in the process benefit our community."
"Omega3 Innovations embodies the spirit of this award, and we are proud to recognize the company's accomplishments through this nomination," said Hansen.
Martinsen said that while there are many impressive nominees for the STEMsmart Innovation Award, he believes Omega3 Innovations may have a winning edge.
"Our Omega Cookies and Omega Passion chocolates allow people to get an effective dose of omega-3 fish oil, which has great implications for helping relieve arthritis, as well as improving lipid numbers and cognitive functioning," said Martinsen. "But instead of pills, we’re offering people the possibility of improving their health in a delicious and convenient way."
The winner will be announced at the STEMsmart award luncheon on October 10, 2013.
About Omega3 Innovations:
Founded by Bo Martinsen, M.D., and Anne-Marie Chalmers, M.D., – two physicians who have worked with omega-3 fish oil for more than 15 years, the company offers several varieties of Omega Cookies®, as well as Omega Cure® supplements. Each Omega Cookie contains seven capsules worth of omega-3 fish oil, five grams of fiber, 200% of the daily value of vitamin D and 35% of the daily value of calcium. The company was named a winner in the category of innovation at the 2010 annual Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County’s Hall of Fame awards. The honor came as the result of being the first company to create a bakery product that contains an effective dose of omega-3 fish oil.
