Surgery Center Offers Mastectomy and Breast Reconstruction at One Convenient Location
Winter Park, FL (PRWEB) September 13, 2013 -- With the addition of Dr. Daryl Wier as a surgeon on staff, the Aesthetic Surgery Center of Winter Park now offers mastectomy and breast reconstruction together as two outpatient procedures, done in one day under the same roof.
Established in 2005, the Aesthetic Surgery Center of Winter Park is a free-standing state-licensed and Medicare-certified Ambulatory Surgery Center that caters to all client needs and is adjacent to the Bougainvillea Clinique, which is the only plastic surgery office in the Greater Orlando area that provides this level of certification immediately adjacent to its medical campus. The surgery center is state and federally licensed by the Agency for Health Care Administration, which is the authority under which Florida hospitals are licensed.
Dr. Wier has more than 30 years of experience as a general and breast surgeon and is a respected surgeon within the Orlando community. The addition of Dr. Wier to the medical staff allows the Bougainvillea Clinique’s Breast Center, which is adjacent to the Aesthetic Surgery Center of Winter Park, to expand and improve its services for its breast cancer patients.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Wier to our medical team,” said Bougainvillea Clinique and Aesthetic Surgery Center of Winter Park Founder Dr. Jeffrey Hartog. “We want to make breast reconstruction as easy and comfortable a process as possible for our patients. Dr. Wier will help with streamlining the mastectomy to reconstruction to recovery processes immensely.”
The Aesthetic Surgery Center of Winter Park is now able to offer patients immediate breast reconstruction using autologous fat transfer (AFT) at the time of their mastectomy procedures. This is valuable for patients who choose prophylactic mastectomy procedures due to a strong family history of breast cancer or a BRCA-positive condition, which causes an increased likelihood of breast cancer.
Initiating AFT at the time of the mastectomy has numerous advantages, especially for a woman’s physical appearance upon undergoing a mastectomy. With the combined procedure, patients can leave the facility with a small breast mound and some fullness, particularly toward the middle of the breast. This is a great advantage in maintaining the appearance of a normal breast when post mastectomy patients return to wearing normal clothing.
Performing the AFT at the time of the mastectomy also prevents contracture of the mastectomy scars and avoids a severe chest deformity. Minimizing the deformity and preventing scar contracture makes the entire process easier and the mastectomy scars heal much more favorably. The AFT technique is virtually scarless, adding no additional scarring beyond those associated with the mastectomy procedures, and leaves women with natural-looking and -feeling breasts.
Dr. Wier also provides other general and breast outpatient surgery procedures at the Aesthetic Surgery Center of Winter Park.
