Cycles of Change to Present Experiential Family Workshop
Palmdale, CA (PRWEB) September 12, 2013 -- Cycles of Change Recovery Services will host an experiential family workshop at its Palmdale facility Sept. 13-15, 2013. The purpose of the workshop is to help families learn about the issue of addiction and how to effectively interact with a loved one who is struggling with an addiction.
The 3-day workshop will take families through the process of addiction and the fact that it is a disease of the brain that impacts family members and loved ones. The program will focus heavily on what families can expect when dealing with an addiction, as well as give them tools and resources necessary to carry on with life, despite the challenges addiction brings to the family.
The speakers at the family workshop are James Tracy and Joseph Hunter. Dr. Tracy has been conducting Professional and Family Interventions for over 20 years. He is a nationally recognized speaker and educator and is a member of the Association of Intervention Specialists.
Joseph Hunter, MFT,CATC, is the founder and CEO of Cycles of Change. He specializes in family issues related to substance abuse. He also uses Cognitive Behavioral style counseling approaches for behavioral changes and relapse prevention techniques. He has been working in the field for more than 18 years and is a well-known "12-Step workshop" facilitator throughout Southern California.
The experiential family workshop will address the issues of codependency, enabling the addict, and communication among family members. Because addiction affects loved ones' emotions so deeply, it is important for family and close friends to learn how to avoid enabling or becoming codependent with the addict.
"This workshop will help families understand the negative consequences of enabling an addict and give them tools to deal with this disease, while learning how to live a healthy life themselves," Joe Hunter explains. "Communication is the key, and we will help attendees learn effective communication methods to use when dealing with the addict in their life."
