Artemusica Choir and Orchestra Performs Gioachino Rossini's Masterful Drama STABAT MATER - Los Angeles, October 3, 4, 5
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 13, 2013 -- Feel the deep emotions of Gioachino Rossini's most famous sacred music composition, written at the end of his extensive operatic career, which has moved audiences all over the world since its wildly successful premiere in Paris in 1842.
The “Stabat Mater” is one of the most touching classic liturgical hymns whose words, attributed to Jacopone da Todi (13th century), narrate the mother-son bond that unites Mary with Christ during his experience of suffering and death on the cross.
From the opening measures rendering Mary’s distressing sobs to the final choral fugue soaring to spiritual heights, Rossini’s music offers a poignant depiction of this soulful drama.
Artemusica will provide audiences with performances faithful to Rossini’s score, which includes two pieces sung ‘a cappella’ by the choir and soloists. Also faithful to the spirit of the sacred composition is the choice of venues: the performances will be held in three inspirational and fascinating churches as follows:
- Thursday, October 3, 2013 — 7 pm: Mary Star of the Sea Church, 870 W 8th St, San Pedro, CA 90731
- Friday, October 4, 2013 — 8:30 pm: St Monica Catholic Church, 725 California Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90403
- Saturday, October 5, 2013 – 8:30 pm – with After Party: Pasadena Presbyterian Church, Pasadena 585 E Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91101
