Every day, physical accidents and sports related injuries affect thousands of people’s lives. In fact, in America, the odds of an Emergency Room visit are two times more likely the result of a fall, accident, or physical trauma than an illness or disease. Considering the prevalence of such ailments, scientists and physicians have consistently pushed the boundaries of modern medicine to employ unique treatment options for patients of all kinds.

Previously, major damage to the hip made it difficult to operate and immobilize, leading to a painful and sometimes incomplete recovery. With new tools and physical therapies, however, hip replacement has now made major leaps and bounds, and patients can now enjoy a quicker and more effective recovery, allowing them to return to their daily routines.

Hosted by Jimmy Johnson, the “Leading Edge” series will be focusing on some of the organizations and individuals who are responsible for these advances, and are continuing to push the envelope in hip replacement science.

The series is distributed to Public Television stations throughout the United States and is not distributed through PBS. Please visit the Leading Edge website at http://www.leadingedgeseries.com or email the producers at info(at)leadingedgeseries(dot)com for more information.
