“Leading Edge” Hosted by Jimmy Johnson Informs the Audience on the Dangers of Overexposure to the Sun
(PRWEB) September 15, 2013 -- Tan skin, for many, is the ideal picture of health. It can, however, simultaneously put people in life-threatening situations by opening the door for skin cancer. Increased knowledge on the perils of over exposure to the sun have led medical professionals to create guidelines that can protect you and the ones you love from the hazards associated with excessive sunlight. Taking precautionary methods now, and in the days that lie ahead, will put you at a lesser risk for the life threatening skin damage that may occur.
Cancer cells have taken three forms in the skin; basal cell cancer, melanoma, and squamous cell cancer. Although basal cell cancer is the least dangerous, it is still imperative that it be extracted. Squamous cell cancer is less common but fatal if left untreated. While melanoma is the least common of the three cancers, it is most likely to aggressively spread if left untreated and can also be deadly. Physical scars left from removing cancerous skin can leave patients with emotional scars as well, sometimes leaving behind massive amounts of skin missing in various areas of the body. With costs for skin cancer starting at five hundred dollars per outpatient procedure, skin cancer damages the wallet as well. Preventative measures such as applying sunscreen and avoiding the sun during peak hours of the day can avert the likelihood of skin cancer becoming a burden in your life.
“Leading Edge with Jimmy Johnson” will educate viewers on skin cancer and how imperative it is to be conscientious of the dangers associated with sun exposure. The “Leading Edge” series will also feature dermatologists, physicians, and patients that have first hand experience in this field.
The series is distributed to Public Television stations throughout the United States and is not distributed through PBS. Please visit the Leading Edge website at http://www.leadingedgeseries.com or email the producers at info(at)leadingedgeseries(dot)com for more information.
