ChopChop Launches Social Media Campaign to Encourage Families to Cook Together to Prevent Childhood Obesity
Watertown, MA (PRWEB) September 12, 2013 -- ChopChop Kids, the non-profit behind ChopChop: The Fun Cooking Magazine for Families, announced today the launch of The Big Picnic, a one-of-a-kind virtual community picnic in which families across the country will cook together (for their own picnics), and share photos and videos in a massive show of social media solidarity. The Big Picnic aims to show families the joy and importance of cooking real food as a way to combat childhood obesity.
“There is no question that cooking with your kids teaches them essential life skills but it’s also a critical step in reducing and preventing childhood obesity,” said Sally Sampson, ChopChop Founder and President. Joined by the White House chefs, Partnership for a Healthier America, media personalities, parent bloggers and key influencers, ChopChop is inviting families to make a dish together and to take a picture or video with their kids either cooking or showcasing the final dish. On September 22nd, participants will come together in a big virtual picnic by sharing photos and tagging them with #bigpicnic on social media channels.
“Ask your kids to count out cherry tomatoes for a salad, come up with the idea for your recipe or sauté onions for a frittata. Just as long as they are doing something, we want to see it!” said Sampson. Families are encouraged to explore The Big Picnic web pages (http://www.chopchopmag.org/bigpicnic), ChopChop Magazine and ChopChop’s new cookbook, ChopChop: The Kids' Guide to Cooking Real Food with Your Family for recipes and tips for planning their picnic.
To encourage participation, ChopChop and its team of bloggers will be giving away prizes on September 22nd, including subscriptions to ChopChop Magazine and copies of the cookbook. “It will be a fun event with a serious goal: preventing childhood obesity,” Sampson said.
