Abt Associates to Evaluate Hospital Innovations Designed to Improve Care, Lower Costs
BETHESDA, MD (PRWEB) September 12, 2013 -- Abt Associates will evaluate a program designed to lower costs for Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and improve patient care under a $5.6 million contract with the CMS Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovations.
As part of the Affordable Care Act, CMS is testing innovative health care payment and service delivery models through The Health Care Innovation Awards program. In 2012, CMS provided 107 awards to fund promising service delivery and payment models. Under the contract, Abt will evaluate 10 models that are based in hospital settings, to determine whether the programs improved health care delivery and lowered costs for patients with specific clinical needs.
“Innovation and efficiency are critical to making our health care system better for patients and more cost effective,” said Terry Moore, vice president for the Health Policy practice at Abt Associates. “Abt is pleased to work with CMS to evaluate these efforts to transform care and reduce costs.”
As part of the evaluation, Abt researchers will provide rapid feedback to the 10 awardees to aid in their program improvement initiatives. Abt will also conduct a mixed-methods evaluation of each award. Andrea Hassol, a principal associate with Abt, will serve as project director.
