Extra Virgin Olive Oil Producer Bellucci Premium Comments on the Passing of a Bill to Create an Olive Oil Commission in California
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) September 13, 2013 -- Bellucci Premium, producer of quality olive oil, responds to the recent passing of a bill in California that will establish an olive oil commission.
According to an article published on September 10th by The Olive Oil Times titled “Bill to Create California Olive Oil Commission Clears Senate,” the bill will allow California to establish a commission that will help strengthen the olive oil industry’s practices.
The bill was originally introduced on April 16th to the Senate Agricultural Committee, and it was recently approved unanimously. Senator Lois Wolk, who is also Chair of the Agriculture Subcommittee, submitted the bill. Wolk says in the article, “Establishing this commission is a vital first step toward protecting consumers and providing California’s olive oil industry a fair playing field where they can grow and thrive.”
The establishment of an Olive Oil Commission would add to the other 16 agricultural commissions in California. This commission would operate under the Department of Food and Agriculture. The article says that it would “allow the industry to conduct research and establish product grades and standards through the Secretary of Food and Agriculture.”
Since there has been an issue with imported olive oil fraud in California, Wolk hopes that this commission will improve olive oil standards, according to the article. Over 65 percent of imported oils found on shelves in California are mislabeled as extra virgin olive oil.
Natalie Sexenian, marketing manager for Bellucci Premium, is excited to see that there is a growing effort to help improve the olive oil industry. “It is nice to see that some states and countries are cracking down on companies that mislabel their olive oil bottles,” she says. “This will get rid of brands that do not meet quality standards. It will also help restore customer loyalty and trust. At Bellucci Premium, we have a traceability app that allows our customers to view exactly where the olives in their bottle of olive oil come from. This is our way of assuring customers that they are getting what they expect - premium extra virgin olive oil.”
The bill now goes to Governor Jerry Brown. Governor Brown must consider the bill before it can move any further, according to the article.
Bellucci offers three different types of oil, including an organic option, with a mild peppery flavor and fruity undertones that will satisfy any palate. Bellucci Premium Toscano extra virgin olive oil uses olives that are grown on the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany, and maintained by 3rd and 4th generation farmers. The third type of oil Bellucci produces is the finest 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil, grown in many different regions of Italy.
