PogoStor managed appliance is the first storage solution to integrate ZFS-on-Linux, providing an affordable, enterprise-grade Open Source platform for the growing cloud storage market.

Pogo Linux (http://www.pogolinux.com), a market leader in Open Source and ZFS storage integration, in collaboration with software-defined storage pioneer OS NEXUS (http://www.osnexus.com), introduced the newest version of its PogoStor™ SAN+NAS cloud storage products, which now integrates ZFS-on-Linux technology. The PogoStor storage appliance is the first Software Defined Storage (SDS) solution to integrate the benefits of ZFS into a Linux-based open storage solution, and costs significantly less than traditional storage options. PogoStor meets the demands of cloud, virtualization, and media and entertainment environments with enterprise features like native SSD caching, unlimited snapshots, in-line compression, and remote replication, with a flexible Linux architecture that lends itself to both general-purpose and specialized storage needs.

ZFS was purpose-built with the features required for a robust, enterprise-grade storage appliance. The 128-bit file system can scale with virtually no limits, while the copy-on-write architecture allows for unlimited snapshots and remote replication, with end-to-end checksums for superior data integrity. These attributes provide the granular data protection, disaster recovery, and flexible scalability required by today’s storage administrators.

OS NEXUS leads the Linux-based SAN/NAS SDS space with QuantaStor, a storage platform incorporating innovative features such as QuantaGrid™ Scale-out Management Technology, built-in multi-tenancy, REST APIs, and now ZFS-on-Linux. With one of the most intuitive and well-implemented management interfaces in the industry, QuantaStor provides the flexibility to incorporate third-party Linux packages, so deployments can be tailored for even the most unique storage environments.

The PogoStor™ SAN+NAS appliance combines OS NEXUS QuantaStor, ZFS, and Pogo Linux open hardware with Pogo’s expert personal support for a revolutionary storage solution. Drawing on Pogo’s five-plus years of experience maintaining and deploying hundreds of ZFS-based storage appliances, PogoStor solutions have been specifically designed for high performance and reliability. Using a Linux architecture and open hardware that is robust and reliable, similar to legacy options but without lock-in, PogoStor is a uniquely-flexible package that can solve a wide variety of cloud, virtualization, and big data challenges at a significantly lower cost-per-gigabyte.

“As a pioneer of both Linux and ZFS integration, Pogo is thrilled to deliver the storage market’s first software defined storage ZFS-on-Linux integrated solution,” said Erik Logan, CEO of Pogo Linux. “The combination of QuantaStor, ZFS, and Pogo Linux support and open hardware provides our customers with a huge cost savings compared to legacy systems, while allowing them even more flexibility in their storage environments.”

“We are excited about working with Pogo Linux on this new PogoStor platform,” says Steven Umbehocker, CEO of OS NEXUS. “We’ve seen Pogo’s expert technical support in action, and this is just one more reason customers can be confident in choosing the new PogoStor ZoL solution. With the introduction of this appliance, there is now a real alternative to proprietary hardware for companies seeking an enterprise-class solution combining advanced technologies to solve their scale-out and hardware cost problems.”
