Nominations for the Fourth Annual Plutus Awards are in progress, and the public has until September 23 to nominate their favorite blogs and writers. The Plutus Awards, named after the god of wealth in Greek mythology, recognize the best financial blogs, products and services, as voted on by the personal finance blogging community and their audiences. The Plutus Awards were created and are facilitated by Luke Landes, founder of Consumerism Commentary.

"The Plutus Awards and their accompanying awards ceremony celebrate the hard work by the best independent writers over the past year," Landes says. "This is a chance to show appreciation for best practices and to bring more awareness to financial blogging as a medium for communication of ideas. Through their expert opinions, bloggers can help shape the products and services offered within the financial industry by awarding the best with a winning vote."

Throughout the summer, the personal financial blogging community voted online for their choices in each award category. After nominations close on September 23, a committee of 25 financial bloggers will cast votes for the finalists in each category by secret ballot to determine the ultimate winners. A People's Choice Plutus Award will also go to the winner of the favorite overall personal finance blog, as voted by readers and social media followers. Voting for the People's Choice award will continue after other nominations close.

The finalists will be announced online at plutusawards.com and on social media channels on October 1, and the winners will be announced during a ceremony at the Financial Blogger Conference in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 17 at 8:00 PM CDT. The ceremony will feature host Kevin McKee, a blogger and founder of financial tool Reward Boost and personal finance blog Thousandaire, and will be sponsored by Fidelity Investments. Following the ceremony, participants and conference attendees will be invited to a event sponsored by Scottrade.

Past winners of product-focused Plutus Awards include ING Direct (Best Savings or Money Market Account, Best Banking Website, Best Overall Bank), Chase Freedom (Best Credit Card), Mint.com (Best Personal Finance Software), and LendingClub (Best Peer-to-Peer or Social Lending Service). This year's awards include new categories such as Best Fundraising Platform and Best Use of Social Media.
