AppColl, a cloud-based patent management provider, today announces the availability of its new patent management solution, Invention Manager, providing corporate IP teams a simple and easy-to-use interface for inventors to document their inventions, get feedback and see their work move through the development and review stages.

“Organizations strive to build the highest quality patent portfolio, quickly, on budget. It’s important to track and predict expenses throughout the development of your intellectual property. And transparency and accountability throughout the entire invention process is critical. Until now, there haven’t been affordable tools to provide this view throughout an entire organization,” said Tim Southgate, AppColl CEO. “With AppColl Invention Manager, the patent committee now has a comprehensive dashboard to help manage the entire invention process that’s so easy to use, everyone in the organization can leverage it.”

AppColl Invention Manager, a cloud-based system, is a tool that allows organizations to manage a well-defined process from when an inventor submits a disclosure through the various stages of feedback and signoff to patent filing. It allows effective management oversight of an organization’s intellectual property portfolio so that adjustments can be made quickly, as necessary. It also allows the patent committee to easily review, give feedback and improve the overall output of the company’s process, both in terms of filing speed and patent quality.

The AppColl system is highly configurable - almost any workflow can be implemented. You can set up email reminders when deadlines are coming to subtly remind team members of what needs to be done. The meeting calendar system conveniently allows inventors to schedule reviews with the patent committee. When the decision is made to file the patent, AppColl Invention Manager can automatically email the attorney with all of the necessary instructions and documents to begin preparation of the patent.

AppColl Invention Manager provides 3 main views that are tailored to the specific user to provide all of the capabilities required without complexity that reduces productivity

  •     Inventor View AppColl Inventor Manager makes it easy for inventors to submit ideas into the approval process. Inventors have a simple interface that allows them to file new disclosures, view pending disclosures, filed patents, along with statistics and bonus awards. As a disclosure progresses through the approval flow, the inventor can clearly see the status of the disclosure and what steps will happen next. Also, AppColl Invention Manager allows the inventor to receive clear feedback from reviewers to improve the quality of disclosures they generate over time.
  •     Manager View. Similar to the inventor’s view, the easy-to-use management view is used by managers and executives in your company to track the disclosures and patents generated within their organization. A manager can view, search and run reports for all disclosures and patents for members of their team, including statistics and bonus awards. AppColl IM supports a full management hierarchy, so leaders at different levels in the organization can see the appropriate amount of information.
  •     Patent View The patent committee view allows full control and oversight of the patent processes. Committee members can view and score all disclosures, and generate and view statistics for the overall process. Setup pages are provided for the account administrator to allow easy configuration of the various components in the system including the disclosure form, filing goals, awards program and patent ranking/scoring rubric. This view is also used in patent committee meetings to simplify the process of deciding on the final disposition of the disclosure.
