Born in 1988, Vina Moñtes revolutionized the local industry by crafting high-quality wines that broke all paradigms, setting the course for dynamic change and ultimately playing a pivotal role in enhancing awareness, affinity, and acclaim for Chilean wines. Its flagship Montes Alpha line, led by the hallmark Cabernet Sauvignon, were the first premium value wines from Chile. Now, in its 25th year, Montes is once again redefining innovation.
From the moment it was formed, founders Aurelio Montes, Douglas Murray, Alfredo Vidaurre and Pedro Grand set a strong precedent at a time in which few dared to bet on the production of quality wines in Chile. Through hard work and little capital, Viña Montes led a new wave of producers devoted to crafting premium quality wines. It became, in time, one of the five major exporters of Chilean wine, as well as one of the most renowned wineries in Chile and abroad. Over time Montes repeated its success in Argentina with Kaiken, and in California with the Napa Angel and Star Angel wines. A quarter of a century later, the winery’s hallmark angels continue to guide developments led by Aurelio Montes.
A year-long anniversary celebration full of new developments has initiated with the launch of Taita, a landmark wine born of millenary glacial soils in Marchigüe, Colchagua valley. In Chile, Taita is an effectionate term for a father: a guiding light for younger generations, someone blessed with wisdom. The name Taita was the idea of late Douglas Murray (1942-2010) and it reflects the vision and inspiration of all the founders of Viña Montes, to craft the finest icon wines from Chile.
Revitalized Brand Imagry
In addition to the launch of Taita, Montes will launch an exclusive 1.5 litre (magnum) anniversary bottle and a limited edition box with few vintages of icons Montes Alpha M, Montes Folly and Purple Angel. It will also release new labels for its Montes Alpha and Montes Classic Series line, which will feature its hallmark angels - a legacy of Douglas Murray, the “Guardian of Montes’ Spirit” – on a revitalized elegant, modern design.
In celebration of the innovative spirit that continues to define its growth, commemorations, inititated in the UK and Asia this summer, will extend until August 2014. Celebrations will close with the uncorking of a new wine, marking an innovative new chapter at Vina Montes.
