Pearson Partners with The Community College Preparatory Academy (CCPA) to Support Adult Learners in the Nation’s Capital
Washington (PRWEB) September 16, 2013 -- Pearson today announced a partnership with the Community College Preparatory Academy (CCPA) to support underserved adult learners in an area of the nation’s capital that is experiencing double-digit unemployment. The CCPA is an adult charter school in the District to offer educational services and skills training to help adults move from high school into postsecondary education and careers.
Scheduled to open on September 16, this adult public charter school plans to serve 150 students in the first year and up to 350 students by the third year. The academy seeks to support residents in Southeast D.C., with a particular focus on minority female heads of household living at or below the poverty level; young adults who have been unsuccessful in completing out-of-state postsecondary programs; students interested in online learning; and young adults who are aging out of the foster care system and need college and career readiness skills in order to make a successful transition.
The academy will provide online training in the core skills of reading, math, writing, and computer literacy. Pearson will provide instructional services and solutions, including MyFoundationsLab®, Pearson Workforce Education and Propero™ self-paced courses; mentoring; and live, on-demand online tutoring.
Washington, D.C., is one of three jurisdictions in the nation identified as a knowledge-based economy; more than 500,000 jobs in the region fall into the administrative/technology category. To meet this demand, students in the first semester will be required to take the following Pearson Workforce Education courses: Computer Concepts, Workforce Readiness, Interpersonal Communication Skills, Effective Business Writing Skills, Internet Search and Job Search.
“We chose Pearson because they have a proven track record of quickly and efficiently creating learning programs that meet the needs of students and have the technology to make it a seamless process,” said Connie Spinner, Executive Director at The Community College Preparatory Academy. “In the District of Columbia, we are experiencing exponential growth in the number of infrastructure engineering-related projects that will be underway for the next 30 years. It is our goal to help prepare these adult learners for the jobs that will be available in the near future.”
“Pearson is dedicated to improving the lives of learners of all ages,” said Dave Daniels, President of Integrated Solutions at Pearson North America. “We look forward to working with CCPA on this unique program to help adult learners in Washington, D.C., who need more opportunities to access the education and training that will help them build better lives for their families.”
