Sally Ride Science and Northrop Grumman Foundation Partner to Ignite Student Interest in STEM
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) September 17, 2013 -- Sally Ride Science, with support from the Northrop Grumman Foundation, will deliver in-person training to educators at the Space Foundation in Colorado Springs, CO, on Saturday, September 21, 2013.
This professional development event—called "Igniting Student Interest in STEM"—will help improve how educators increase student engagement in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and interest in STEM careers.
The event will bring together dozens of educators and administrators with Sally Ride Science faculty for one day of training in which attendees will learn how to ignite—and maintain—student interest in STEM through engaging techniques that connect standards-based content with current topics, STEM career paths, and examples of diverse scientists working in the field today.
“The benefits of exciting students about science fields and topics extend far beyond improved test scores,” said Dr. Karen Flammer, co-founder of Sally Ride Science. “We want to help teachers cultivate college- and career-readiness, and get their students thinking about their futures and the career possibilities that exist for them in STEM. We're thrilled to partner with the Northrop Grumman Foundation to empower both teachers and their students.”
Educators will receive professional development credit along with Sally Ride Science books and other resources they can incorporate into classroom instruction to enhance learning. Sally Ride Science faculty, composed of nationally recognized current and former teachers, will lead the training.
