Longevity and Turnover - Where Does it Help? Where Does it Hurt?
(PRWEB) September 18, 2013 -- In the eighth of a series of releases titled “America Employed,” Express Employment Professionals, the nation’s largest privately held staffing firm, today released findings that reveal the fields in which longevity is an asset and the fields in which turnover is not a problem.
The survey of 264 Express franchises across the nation revealed that longevity matters most in the field of accounting. High turnover, meanwhile, is least likely to be considered a problem in industrial work and information technology.
“There was a time when Americans tended to find a job and stay with that company through retirement. That’s not the economy of the 21st century. Turnover isn’t the exception; it’s the norm,” said Bob Funk, CEO of Express Employment Professionals, and a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. “But not all jobs are created equal: longevity is still valued in some sectors, and it’s important to know where.”
“If you’re working in accounting, I suggest you get comfortable and settle in,” Funk said. “But if you’re working in the industrial arena or information technology, the market accepts the fact that people jump around.”
Respondents were asked to name the field in which longevity is the most important. The responses were as follows.

3) Engineering, Manufacturing, Technical 17%
4) Licensed Medical 8%
5) Office Services 6%
6) Sales, Marketing 6%
7) Human Resources 4%
8) Health Care 4%
9) Industrial 4%

Respondents were also asked to name the field in which high turnover is “not a problem.” The responses were as follows.
