Dr. Jonathan Zaidan, MD, FACOG, recently partnered with Dr. Douglas Pugmire to perform a complicated oopherectomy and lysis of adhesions procedure via single port robotic surgery. This brand new technology has advanced the robotic surgery platform, making ‘minimally-invasive’ surgery even more minimally invasive.

Minimally invasive surgery just became even more minimally invasive. Specially-trained, robotic surgeons, Dr. Jonathan Zaidan, MD, FACOG, founder of Women’s Excellence in Robotic Surgery, and Dr. Douglas Pugmire recently removed an ovary and performed a lysis of adhesions in a female patient with chronic pelvic pain through 1 small incision. Single Port Robotic Surgery is the most recent advance in minimally invasive surgery and is available at Women’s Excellence in Robotic Surgery.

Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) in women can be a debilitating condition resulting in multiple surgical procedures to diagnose and treat the problem. Before laparoscopy and robotics, these procedures would be performed via an ‘open’ procedure, without a scope. Open procedures require a larger incision and longer recovery time. Laparoscopy came along and introduced the scope and several smaller incisions in the abdominal wall decreasing surgical time and recovery time.

Today, robotic surgery is quickly replacing the traditional laparoscopy. The scopes are smaller, incisions are smaller, and now there is only one small incision needed. Not only does the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System allow surgeons to operate through less incisions but features a magnified 3D high-definition vision system and tiny wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human wrist. As a result, da Vinci enables the surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control. According to Dr. Zaidan, “Robotic surgery with the da Vinci system has made minimally invasive surgery even more minimally invasive".
