Scholar Merrilyn Richardson Says That We are Spiritual Beings First, So We Must Look to Spiritual Solutions for Societal Problems

You ARE God: The Challenge to Achieve Christ Consciousness in the Modern Era by Merrilyn Richardson

In her new book, “You ARE God: The Challenge to Achieve Christ Consciousness in the Modern Era,” author Merrilyn Richardson offers spiritual solutions on a range of issues.

“One thing we’ve succeeded in doing as citizens of the modern world is to perpetuate a fragmented understanding of our condition. My book offers a cross-disciplined fusion of ideas – spiritual solutions – from which to draw insight and clarity,” says Richardson, a former journalist who is a founding member of the Center for Spiritual Living.

Our spiritual and secular lives are One, Richardson writes. In addition to making a powerful case for the notion that each of us is, indeed, God, Richardson exposes three mistaken ideas. These have caused disaster and chaos worldwide, she says. The perpetrators are those in spiritual groups with false images of God's nature along with the political theories of Karl Marx and John M. Keynes’ economic ideas.

Concise reviews of current events and history offer readers a factual context for understanding our challenges along with responsible spiritual solutions. Cooperation, not coercion, is the catalyst for individual happiness and more perfect lives. This message is dedicated to virtue, how it is lost, and understanding how it can be regained.

Foreign policy; personal and societal values; economics and the marketplace – these are some of the major topics of debate that touch the lives of each individual, she says.

“Knowing that we each are created by God to reflect His image in a living form, what is our purpose on this planet we call Earth?” she asks. “If God is love, then that must be the spirit that would guide all of our actions.”

As spiritual beings having a human experience, it only makes sense to first address spiritual principles given to us from the highest order: God, she says. From there, in the context of free will, we can better understand our lives as an opportunity as we face the complex issues of our day.
