Bryan Cranston tells me this story, he says Vince Gilligan went, 'Well let's bring back that Skinny Stoner guy.'

Breaking Bad's Charles Baker, known for his portrayal of Skinny Pete, made an appearance on AfterBuzz TV's Breaking Bad aftershow Sunday night. In his appearance, Baker talks about creator Vince Gilligan's decision to cast him and working with actor Jonathan Banks.
CHARLES BAKER ON GETTING CAST AS SKINNY PETE:
Baker says, “It was a dream. I've been just bit parts on a few TV shows prior to Breaking Bad, and I started on it as a day player. 'Skinny Stoner'…It was just, like, three lines, and I was supposed to be done…and they told me, 'If you hadn't have gotten on when you did, the way you did, you wouldn't have even had a chance to audition. This role is way above your pay grade right now."
He explains, “In season one, Jesse was supposed to die. So since Jesse didn't die, he needed to have friends. And so it was kind of a like, 'Well since we already brought this guy in…' What really happened…Matt Jones, who plays Badger, was hired to…do the intros for Tuco, originally. He was hired for three episodes originally, in his original contract…well after they finished his episode, they went, 'He's a little too funny and likable and not really, like, tough enough to be someone who's done prison time'. He doesn't look like he's done time with a guy named Tuco and lived. And so they were at kind of a last minute 'well we need to either do another audition, or bring somebody…'Who do we got?' And…Bryan Cranston tells me this story, he says Vince Gilligan went, 'Well let's bring back that Skinny Stoner guy.'…Inside I was just giddy. Because even in the script it said Skinny Stoner, Skinny Stoner, 'Yo man, I'm Skinny Pete!'…I was Skinny Stoner until I said 'Yo Man, I'm Skinny Pete!'…and that was like, okay man, now I'm on the show. I've got a name!”
CHARLES BAKER ON WORKING WITH ACTOR JONATHAN BANKS:
“Even seeing [Jonathan Banks] on set, I was starstruck. He sat down next to me and said, 'Hey. I'm really tired… This is our last scene today, and if you screw this up, I'm going to punch you in the heart',” recalls Baker.
