CSI Products urges Scottish businesses and organisations to take action to ensure compliance with new waste management regulations

Following the recent campaign by Zero Waste Scotland to raise awareness of the new waste regulations being rolled out in early 2014, CSI Products are encouraging businesses and organisations to act now for guaranteed compliance when the Regulations are implemented next year.

Earlier this month a nationwide campaign was launched by Zero Waste Scotland to raise awareness of the new regulations that will affect all Scottish businesses and organisations from early next year.

The new Regulations, which will come into force from 1 January 2014, stipulate that all businesses and organisations, regardless of size, must take reasonable measures to separate plastic, metal, glass, paper and card for self disposal to licensed waste disposal sites or scheduled collection by waste management contractors or face a hefty fine.

The Regulations also state that businesses and organisations that produce over 50kg of food waste per week, with the exception of those located in rural areas, will also need to make provisions to separate all food waste prior to disposal. These waste regulations will be extended to include those producing over 5kg food waste in 2016.

The mandatory changes to the way businesses and organisations handle the waste they produce are the result of the new Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012 passed by the Scottish Parliamenton 9th May 2012 in a bid to help Scotland achieve its goal of becoming a zero waste society.

Scottish businesses and organisations already have a duty of care to ensure that all waste is stored and disposed of safely and securely. However, the new waste regulations take commercial waste management to another level, attempting to divert waste away from UK landfills and encourage recycling and sustainability.

In support of this recent awareness campaign, CSI Products are reaching out to those responsible for waste management, urging them to take action now, or face potential fines if they get caught up in the rush to comply, when the Regulations come into force at the start of 2014.

There is a wide selection of products on the market that can help businesses meet the demands of these new Regulations through the implementation of segregated recycling systems.

CSI Products offer an extensive range of waste management solutions, recycling bins and wheelie bins that can help businesses and organisations to successfully meet their new legal obligations.

These include:
