Boys Town, Neb. (PRWEB) September 17, 2013 -- Boys Town today opened its newest building on campus to offer medically directed care for more seriously troubled youth who require supervision, safety and therapy. The Boys Town Residential Treatment Center is a 34-bed facility, located at Boys Town National Research Hospital on the Pacific Street campus, will hold a secure program for children 5-18 years old.
“The expansion of this program will mean more families in the community will get the help they need,” said Father Steven Boes, Boys Town National Executive Director. “We have had such success treating these very difficult kids and this new facility will only help us continue to serve more kids.”
The Center will serve children who experience severe behavioral problems, such as a history of school failures, aggression, self-injury, property damage, or a history of police and court involvement; or if attempts in working with other mental health providers in the past have not been successful in treating behavioral problems. Children often come to the program with co-existing medical conditions, further complicating treatment. Without this intensive treatment, reunifying children with their family shows little promise.
“Since opening the first Residential Treatment Center in 1996, our program has continued to grow in response to the increased need in the community to help children with severe behavioral problems,” said John Arch, Executive Vice President of Health Care. “The proven effectiveness of the Boys Town Treatment Model, combined with the new state-of-the-art 34-bed facility, ensures the safety and security of the child within a medically directed, therapeutic environment and will allow us to care for more children who need our help.”
A ribbon cutting and blessing was held Sept. 17, 2013. The construction of the new Center was funded by local community members and businesses.
