SimulTV Steals the Show by Diminishing the Need for Bandwidth & Piracy
Selma, VA (PRWEB) September 18, 2013 -- "Where has all the bandwidth gone?" might well be the most important question facing our increasingly digital society. With the ever expanding number of notebooks, iPads, smartphones, laptops, internet-ready TVs, users are snapping up bandwidth faster than ever. The increased bandwidth usage is limiting access and distribution of content to hungry consumers. Prices rise due to this perceived shortage, and digital piracy becomes the answer to finding desirable content.
SimulTV, the world’s most interactive broadcast channel, is putting an end to the bandwidth squeeze and declaring war on digital piracy with its revolutionary online platform that combines live cable television, interactive video, social networks, text and voice chat on one device. SimulTV offers live streaming television and has recently launched the new subscription video on demand (SVOD) feature.
Industry reports have shown that bandwidth is being sucked up in a few major ways. In a 2012 global report on the state of the industry Sandvine, a company that sells Internet traffic-management systems, found that internet data usage had increased 120 Percent in North America. Topping its list of bandwidth drains was Netflix, which is utilizing 33 percent of the peak period bandwidth share in North America. In the first quarter of 2013 alone, Netflix streamed more than 4 billion hours of content globally. Sandvine also noted that the demand for real-time experiences continues to soar.
While Netflix talks about a new protocol compression technology to reduce bandwidth usage, the new programs are full of problems and could take 3-8 years to implement. Availability will be limited, due to geographical market rollouts and expensive costs of transitioning the system. SimulTV, on the other hand, already offers the same streaming ability for less than 25% of the bandwidth currently needed for others in the industry.
SimulTV subscribers can share a high definition social TV experience that provides the ability to watch, cheer, disagree, joke and bond over favorite shows, movies and sporting events from around the globe. With viewing options that include live cable television programming and now subscription video on demand SimulTV offers affordable access on any mobile or connected device anywhere in the world.
"If a small company entering the market like SimulTV can achieve such a dramatic reduction in bandwidth, why can’t the major players do the same," questioned Steven Turner, founder and CEO of SimulTV. "Imagine the enormous amounts of bandwidth that is currently used by family members who want to watch different forms of programming. SimulTV makes that possible and includes the opportunity to communicate on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and video conferencing in real time without having to use a second device."
On another front, a report from Envisional on The State of Digital Piracy reveals that pirated content accounts for 24% of the worldwide internet bandwidth consumption. Turner blames the current pricing structures and geographic limitations of major competitors as the driving force behind the continued popularity of piracy. "SimulTV’s effective use of bandwidth makes it possible to declare war on digital piracy," Turner added. "Our pricing model and worldwide availability is so cheap and affordable it’s no longer cost-effective to pirate programming."
