Educators Hail Launch of Makebadges—New Web Tool for Creating Digital Badges
(PRWEB) September 23, 2013 -- The team behind safe social learning platform Makewaves has now launched Makebadges - http://www.makebadg.es - the free new website that allows anyone to create their own digital badges easily.
“Useful, yes, but also good plain fun.” - Saylor Foundation, Washington D.C.
Inspired by Mozilla Open Badges and the Open Badge movement, Makebadges gives students and teachers all over the world the opportunity to create a digital award or picture that expresses their identity.
Open Badges enable learners to showcase their skills and achievements online and are available to members of the Makewaves network of over 4,500 schools.
The Open Badge project was announced by Mozilla in September 2011, aiming to “create learning that works more like the web.”
“Badge collection may eventually become a central part of online reputation, helping you get a job, find collaborators and build prestige,” wrote Mozilla’s Mark Surman on the day of the announcement.
“Excellent...just created badge in two minutes on iPad!” - Makebadges User
All content made on Makebadges can be shared on Makewaves - http://www.makewav.es - the award-winning, safe social network for young people to share their videos, photos and blogs. Since launching digital badges on the site in January 2013, over 30,000 badges have been awarded to the Makewaves global community of students and teachers.
“Digital badges are a real motivator for learning, we’ve seen a huge interest from teachers wanting to create their own badges to capture and recognise pupil achievement. Makebadges makes it hard not to make a good looking badge. We look forward to seeing what you will make with it!” - Mark Riches, Makebadges founder.
Whether you need a digital badge for your online project, a collection of safe user avatars or a banner image for your website, Makebadges gives you a free and easy solution for all of these.
“Wow! I'm so excited. I'm going to get using it straight away.” - Makewaves Student
What will you make?
