A new gadget recycling company has vowed to tackle the problem of customers feeling cheated by websites that don’t pay what they promise.
New service Ci Recycle says many customers who use recycling sites to get cash for gadgets such as phones, tablets and cameras end up feeling ripped off when the prices they get are lower than those they were quoted.
Many recyclers offer high prices but will then quibble about minor marks caused by general wear and tear and will mark down the price they pay after the customer has sent their gadget in.
Ci Recycle, which has been launched by computer systems and services provider Centerprise International, has pledged to be upfront and transparent about its payments to customers.
Users go to http://www.CiRecycle.co.uk and enter details of their gadget and information about its condition.
The website then offers to pay a clear price for that item – and won’t mark it down unless the condition of the item is significantly different from the way the customer described it. This would be a rival to Mazuma Mobile who are known for following a similar honesty policy, but Ci Recycle threatens to offer better prices for gadgets than Mazuma Mobile.
That means that if a customer has described a device as used, there will be no drop in the price paid even if there are minor marks, nicks, scuffs and scrapes.
The customer is sent a free pack to post their gadget in to Ci Recycle, and the money they were promised is quickly paid into their bank account. The gadget they sent in is ethically recycled – whether that’s by being sold in the second-hand market or responsibly disposed of.
As well as dealing with individual consumers, Ci Recycle will also work with companies to help them dispose of their products in an environmentally-friendly way.
Centerprise International, which is based in Basingstoke, Hampshire, is one of the largest and best-regarded IT providers in the UK – so users have the peace of mind of knowing that
Ci Recycle is backed by a major company.
The Ci Recycle service also ties in with Centerprise International’s commitment to being an environmentally-friendly firm.
Cas Paton has taken the role of Web Programme Director at Centerprise International to head up the Ci Recycle project.
Cas said: “Centerprise International see a real potential with recycling; we want to do our bit for the environment by recycling old electronics rather than continually manufacturing new electronics.
“Ci Recycle will be involved with both trade and consumers, purchasing bulk from retailers and companies, and purchasing individual items from consumers.
“The consumer recycling industry is packed with ambiguity and many recyclers offer high prices but the consumers face major downgrading on price for small wear and tear, and often the consumer feels cheated.
“At Ci Recycle we will be offering an honest and transparent pricing policy to remove all ambiguity. As long as you’ve been honest with us, we’ll be straightforward with you – the price we give you up front is the price we’ll pay.
“For the first time in the UK, consumers can sell their electronics to a key industry player, and sell with the confidence that they will be quickly be paid the amount they are expecting.”
