The Gallery at Lawrence Heritage State Park will host an exhibit of paintings by the great urban folk artist Ralph Fasanella from October 12 through December 16, 2013.

Paintings of Lawrence and the Bread and Roses Strike by Ralph Fasanella and working drawings of mill machinery in Lowell will be exhibited in Lawrence Heritage State Park’s Gallery, which is located at 1 Jackson Street, Lawrence, MA 01840.

The Park, which owns “Lawrence 1912: the Bread and Roses Strike,” hosted the last exhibit of Fasanella works in 1987, at the 75th anniversary of the Bread and Roses Strike. The present exhibit will focus on Fasanella’s stay and legacy in Lawrence, and his ongoing international significance and importance for American labor history.

The opening reception, including jazz music, is on Saturday, October 12, 2013, from 5-7 PM, at the Gallery of Lawrence Heritage State Park, at 1 Jackson Street, Lawrence, MA.

The exhibit will also encompass a panel discussion including people who knew and worked with Ralph Fasanella on Saturday, November 2, 2013, from 1-4 PM, followed by a film and video night with documentaries about him, from 6-8 PM. Refreshments will be served between the panel discussion and the films.

All events are free and open to the public.

Supporting the exhibit are the artist’s son, Marc Fasanella, Ph.D., a professor of Art, Architecture and Environment at Stony Brook University, Paul D’Ambrosio, Ph.D., President of the Fenimore Art Museum and author of “Ralph Fasanella’s America,” Andrew Edlin of Andrew Edlin Gallery, New York, and Mr. Elkin McCallum. Funding provided by various foundations as well as the Essex National Heritage Area.
