Greenberg Traurig Attorney Ashley C. Brown to Speak at the Third Annual Telecoms for Smart Grids Conference
Boston, MA (PRWEB) September 18, 2013 -- Ashley C. Brown, of counsel with the international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP, will speak at the Third Annual Telecoms for Smart Grids Conference. This year’s conference, which will address the current development of both UK and European communications infrastructures for Utilities, will take place Monday, Sept. 23 and Tuesday, Sept. 24 at the Marriott Hotel, Regents Park in London, England.
Brown, a member of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Energy & Infrastructure practice group, will lead a presentation at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, titled “Smart Grid Regulatory and Competition Issues.” He will discuss regulatory policy and smart grid; smart meters and billing: competition policy issues; smart grid and pricing for end users; and implications for pricing distributed generation.
According to its website, the conference will discuss what communication infrastructure and backbone will be most secure, flexible, scalable and reliable. The conference will give first hand insight and experience from Utilities on the progress and outcomes of trials in Smart Grid Communications technologies, including but not limited to: 4G for Smart Grid, IT Infrastructure for electric mobility, integration with renewable energy systems, privacy and security, cost benefit, rollout considerations, and monitoring, control and low latency considerations.
Brown focuses his practice on energy and infrastructure regulation and both domestic and international law. He has served as a consultant for foreign countries worldwide, providing counsel on drafting laws, policies and regulations for energy, public utilities, air quality and electricity matters. Among other things, he also played a significant role in drafting regulatory and energy laws in Brazil, Hungary, Ukraine, Tanzania, Liberia, and Equatorial Guinea, and has worked extensively in Russia, India, Indonesia, Argentina, Bangladesh, South Africa, Zambia, and Namibia.
Brown also has extensive experience in U.S. energy markets, having served for 10 years as Commissioner of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. In addition to his role at Greenberg Traurig, Brown currently serves as the Executive Director of the Harvard Electricity Policy Group at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, as well as an instructor of infrastructure in the market economy at Harvard’s Executive Program on Infrastructure. He has published many significant works on power sector reforms, smart grid technology, infrastructure regulations and renewable energy, including co-authoring The World Bank’s Manual for evaluating Infrastructure Regulation. Furthermore, Brown is a frequent speaker and lecturer on policy matters in North and South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
