Take a Stand for PCOS with the PCOS Foundation’s Fourth Annual PCOS Awareness 5K Fun Run/Walk
Houston, TX (PRWEB) September 18, 2013 -- The PCOS Foundation, based in Houston, is proud to announce the fourth annual PCOS Awareness 5K Fun Run/Walk. On Saturday, September 28, hundreds of women and supporters will march the streets of Houston in an effort to promote awareness. This syndrome affects approximately 7 million women and adolescents across the country. Of those 7 million, 50 percent of these women are unaware of their diagnosis. Please help kick off the event at the Downtown Aquarium in Houston at 7:20 a.m.
With Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), women may experience hirsutism (excess facial and/or body hair), irregular menstrual cycles, enlarged ovaries, infertility and more. Approximately one in 10 women suffer from polycystic ovarian syndrome. Surprisingly, statistics show that more than half of the women who have PCOS aren’t aware of their disease.
This year’s event is sponsored by Amerejuve Med Spa and Cosmetic Surgery and hosted by the Houston-based PCOS Foundation, founded by president Lisa Benjamini-Allon in 2010. The PCOS Foundation hopes that by raising awareness of PCOS through an annual public run/walk, women’s lives will be changed for the better.
All people, including men, women and children, are invited to show their support for women living with PCOS by participating in the 5K. The 2013 5K Fun Run/Walk has an impressive fundraising goal of $75,000, a large boost from 2012’s event. The PCOS Foundation is excited to project a turnout of over 800 participants for the 2013 PCOS Awareness 5K Fun Run/Walk.
Sponsors for the 2013 PCOS Awareness Fun Run/Walk also include: Amerejuve Med Spa and Cosmetic Surgery, Advanced Fertility Center of Texas, LabCorp, Chiral Balance, My Fit Foods, Neway Fertility, GLYP’s, Smoothie King, la Madeleine, Web Innovations, Downtown Aquarium, The Greensheet, Spring Action Photo, Clif Bar, Amerefit, Bayou City Outdoors, Sunny 99.1, 104.1 KRBE, and Phoenicia Specialty Foods.
