Felicia Day’s “The Guild” Characters Come to 5th Planet Games’ Dawn of the Dragons
Rocklin, CA (PRWEB) September 19, 2013 -- 5th Planet Games, Inc., a leading developer of core, free-to-play games on social and mobile platforms, announced today that it has partnered with the popular web series “The Guild” to bring the series’ characters to life in 5th Planet’s popular Role Playing Game, Dawn of the Dragons. From now through the end of the year, each of “The Guild’s” main characters will lend their special powers to help gamers battle the dragons, monsters and other enemies lurking in Dawn of the Dragons.
Starring, created by, and written by actress Felicia Day, “The Guild” is an award-winning independent sitcom web series about a group of online gamers who belong to a common guild within a fictitious game. Since its premier on YouTube in July, 2007, “The Guild” has been viewed more than 250 million times and today stretches into its sixth season of distribution. The partnership with 5th Planet Games marks the first time any of “The Guild” characters have appeared in a real video game.
“I’m a big fan of 5th Planet’s games, and we are all very pleased to bring our characters to such a engaging and unique game as Dawn of the Dragons,” said Felicia Day, creator and star of “The Guild.” “The 5 Planet team was fun to work with and brought a lot of passion to the project. They've gone to great lengths to remain loyal to the tone of the show and the characters. It’s easy to see why their games have been so successful to date.”
“‘The Guild’ encapsulates everything that we love about games—the camaraderie, the competitiveness, the fantasy—and we thought it would be fun to turn the show’s characters into a side narrative for one of our games,” said Robert Winkler, co-founder and CEO of 5th Planet Games. “We also happen to be enormous fans of show, so it was incredibly exciting to work with one of our idols in Felicia Day and her talented crew.”
Each of “The Guild’s” main characters—Codex, Zaboo, Vork, Bladezz, Clara and Tinkerballa—will be featured, one at a time and for limited times only, as a premium Troop or General available in the Dawn of the Dragons Bazaar. Coinciding with the release of each character will also be a special “Guild”-themed event such as a new World Raid, new Zone, or some other type of special event. The promotion kicked off last month with the availability of Tinkerballa, the Ranger portrayed by actress Amy Okuda, as a premium General. Sales of the Tinkerballa General were three times higher than normal volumes. The next character to be featured will be Zaboo, the Warlock played by Sandeep Parikh.
