Bandwidth Commander will provide the detailed bandwidth analytics and policy enforcement we need to manage bandwidth usage on our network in real time.

ZCorum, a leading provider of managed broadband services and diagnostics for broadband service providers, announced today that ElbertonNET has signed an agreement for Bandwidth Commander, ZCorum's advanced bandwidth management tool for DOCSIS networks. Bandwidth Commander implements usage management in a “net-neutral” way by fairly enforcing usage limits based on the provider’s pricing tiers and network use policies.

ElbertonNET selected Bandwidth Commander to make more efficient use of their bandwidth and improve the overall level of service for their subscribers. Bandwidth Commander is able to monitor bandwidth use on an hour-by-hour basis and automatically apply policies to reduce congestion when needed. In addition, the product will enable ElbertonNET to analyze their broadband packages and tie package pricing to subscriber bandwidth use.

“We realize that the best way to improve our subscribers’ online experience is to reduce congestion during peak hours,” said Lanier Dunn, City Manager of Elberton, GA, which operates ElbertonNET as a branch of the city’s Utilities Department. "Bandwidth Commander will provide the detailed bandwidth analytics and policy enforcement we need to manage bandwidth usage on our network in real time..”

According to Dunn, better control of bandwidth use is a win for his company as well as his subscribers. "When the network is busy it tends to be a small number of users who are impacting the service for everyone. By managing our peak usage, we’ll be able to improve the online experience for all subscribers. We’ll also have the data needed to advise those subscribers who use the most bandwidth to select the broadband package that’s best fits their needs."

ElbertonNET’s long-standing experience with ZCorum’s capabilities goes back to 2000, when the city had first started offering Internet to its residents. ElbertonNet uses ZCorum to provide email and VoIP services and the TruVizion modem and network diagnostics application to monitor and manage their broadband network.

"The City of Elberton has been a great customer of ours for many years," said Neal Grillot, ZCorum’s VP of Operations. "Bandwidth Commander gives them a new way to provide a consistent level of service for their subscribers, plus they will be able to intelligently relate rising bandwidth use to subscriber revenue, allowing them to fund future expansion."
