(PRWEB UK) 25 September 2013 -- It has been reported in Expat Forum that the changes are being described as “the most significant and wide ranging European health legislation in a generation.” It means that someone living overseas but faced with undue delays could return to the UK for treatment. However, it rules that patients being treated abroad will only be able to do so if there is an undue delay, as defined by clinicians, and providing that the treatment is necessary. EU countries have until 25th October to pass their own laws implementing the directive, which covers both public and private hospitals, and to make arrangements for cross border healthcare.
Whilst a patient paying for treatment abroad would be reimbursed on return to their country, it is important to note that any travel and living costs will not be reimbursed.

“It will come as a great comfort to those who have moved or are thinking of moving overseas to know that the option of returning to their home country for health care in the right circumstances is now an option. The cross border deal applies anywhere within the free trade EEA area so we would encourage anyone unsure about their rights to look into this further.
