Florida National University Receives Top Honors for School of the Year
Talahassee, FL (PRWEB) September 19, 2013 -- The leaders of Florida’s career colleges – schools focused on providing quality education and training for more than 400,000 students each year – recently recognized the sector’s outstanding students, schools, faculty and administrators.
Florida National University in Hialeah received top honors as School of the Year by the Florida Association of Postsecondary Schools and Colleges. The 2013 awards were selected by a panel and presented at the association’s recent annual conference in South Florida attended by educators and business leaders.
“Community service projects are the norm at the campus, showing the commitment Florida National University has to leaving a mark and serving the needs of local residents,” said Curtis Austin, executive director of FAPSC.
The university has partnered with a local business to host Community Health Fairs, providing students with the opportunity to apply their training and wellness knowledge to the benefit of the community. The campus also is involved with the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, The Minority Chamber of Commerce and the Doral Business Council.
Among other honors, Dr. Carlos Cuervo, Pediatric Nephrologist and Department Head of Florida National University’s Allied Health Division who teaches anatomy and biology, was selected to receive a Faculty of the Year award.
“Dr. Cuervo is more than an instructor, he is a mentor – providing extra tutoring along with countless opportunities he makes available to his students for them to demonstrate hands-on what they have learned,” Austin said.

The association of more than 250 members works on behalf of the more than 1,000 licensed private career schools and colleges in Florida that prepare students each year for employment in more than 200 occupational fields by offering degree programs, certification and training.
