Animal Planet Star Jackson Galaxy Lends Support to Outdoor Cats and National Feral Cat Day in new Video PSA for Alley Cat Allies
Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) September 23, 2013 -- Jackson Galaxy, the cat behaviorist responsible for ensuring cat guardians and their cats coexist peacefully on the popular Animal Planet show My Cat From Hell, lends his support to National Feral Cat Day (October 16) in a new PSA filmed for Alley Cat Allies, the nation’s largest advocacy group for cats.
“We are thrilled to work with our friend, Jackson Galaxy, on this important educational mission,” said Becky Robinson, president and co-founder of Alley Cat Allies. “On National Feral Cat Day, we celebrate the growing movement to protect the lives of outdoor cats with humane and effective programs like Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). We are grateful for Jackson’s support.”
In the video, Jackson reminds viewers that feral cats are not socialized to people and cannot be adopted, and he says that “TNR helps reduce the number of cats being killed in our shelters each year—and that’s something we all want.”
“My Cat From Hell is great entertainment, but Jackson’s work and mission are also critical—to educate guardians about their cats’ behavior, bring harmony to the home, and to save those cats from a tragic fate in an animal pound or shelter,” said Robinson.
“We share that mission in our work, because feral cats who end up in shelters are almost always killed there,” she said. “Although more than 330 local governments have ended ‘catch and kill’ and embraced TNR, there is still much more work to be done to spread this positive change.”
Alley Cat Allies spearheaded the movement for TNR in the United States in the early 1990s, and founded National Feral Cat Day in 2000. Hundreds of events are held across the U.S. to mark the day. A comprehensive listing can be found at http://www.nationalferalcatday.org.”;
