Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals “Champions” Make 56 Powerful Cases for Local Charitable Giving
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) September 24, 2013 -- A child from every state, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico will spend a week telling media, lawmakers and some of the largest North American companies how local donations changed their lives thanks to a children’s hospital. These 56 courageous kids are known as the 2013 Champions of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, a charity that raises funds and awareness for 170 pediatric centers.
In 2012 alone, member Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals admitted 62 children every minute in need of treatment and care for every kind of disease, illness and injury, and also premature birth. Champions put a face to these millions of annual treatments, illustrating the impact of dollar-by-dollar donations made every day.
"Our 170 member hospitals provide a range of general and specialized health care services, but they are bonded by a growing charitable need in every city and town in which they operate,” said John Lauck, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals president and CEO.
“The need is clearly illustrated in this year’s Champions. As infants, three of this year’s Champions have slept in specialized cribs thanks to local donations. Two have benefited from life-flight and respiratory equipment following critical injuries, and another is now in remission thanks in part to an oncology clinic funded by everyday heroes,” Lauck said. “Other Champions are recovering thanks to community-funded therapy programs. As we take part in these kids' journey, we’re sincerely thankful to Delta Air Lines and supporting sponsor Chico's FAS for making the Champions ambassador program possible."
On Tuesday, Oct. 8, Champions and family members will convene in Orlando, Fla., where they'll be welcomed at CMN Hospitals' 30th anniversary Celebration event hosted by co-founders Marie Osmond and John Schneider at Walt Disney World. The week will kick off with an emotionally charged medal ceremony hosted by Nick Cannon. Champions will spend the next three days inspiring Children's Miracle Network Hospitals partners and members of the media. Of note, Champions will participate in local satellite TV interviews conducted live from the Magic Kingdom’s Rose Garden on Oct. 11.
On Oct. 12, Champions will board a chartered Delta Air Lines flight to Washington, D.C. where they will learn more about being an advocate for children’s healthcare, enjoy a luncheon on Capitol Hill and tour historical landmarks. Champions also traditionally visit the White House, where, in previous years, they have met with Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Accompanying them throughout the trip will be recently crowned Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri.
