A Fresh Start: The Military Mural on the Flagship Inn & Suites Gets a Clean Coat of Paint, Patriots in Paint – Honoring the Military One Community at a Time
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) September 24, 2013 -- The military mural transcending the side of the Flagship Inn & Suites in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is being refreshed to signify a renewed commitment to honor our nation’s military. Warrior Gateway, a national non-profit, in partnership with mural artist, Sam Welty will revive the Flagship Inn & Suites mural for the Virginia Beach community. Tentative plans for a dedication ceremony are being made for Saturday, October 12th, weather permitting the mural’s completion. The project is part of Warrior Gateway’s Patriots in Paint initiative, a program designed to build a strong network of community involvement through art, activities and multi-media platforms by painting large scale murals honoring the military across the country.
Repainting the Flagship Inn & Suites is the first in the Patriots in Paint program that Warrior Gateway intends to scale nationwide. Welty will refinish the 60-by-80 foot mural of the Atlantic Fleet, which he originally painted in 2002 to remind the community of the September 11th, 2001 attacks and the sacrifice made by the military community in its aftermath. The refreshed design includes updated imagery of the United States Navy’s surface ships and aircraft.
"Our heroes in the military must never think that we have forgotten them. It is only because they serve that we are free,” said Hampton Roads based mural artist, Sam Welty.
Patriots in Paint seeks to honor the sacrifice and service of our nation’s bravest men and women and inspire millions in the community to come together and support our nation’s veterans. The Flagship Inn & Suites mural is part of a national movement that delivers local impact by rallying the community to recognize the work of organizations in the area serving the military. All in the Virginia Beach area are invited to attend the October 12th dedication ceremony and support the mural creation by donating online at: http://www.warriorgateway.org and designate Patriots in Paint – The Flagship Inn.
