Infinite Skills' "SolidWorks - Weldments Tutorial" Offers Focused Training on Modelling Welded Features in Mechanical Design Program
(PRWEB) September 30, 2013 -- Software training firm Infinite Skills Inc. last week introduced its "SolidWorks Weldments Training Video," an intensive course focused on the weldments panel of the SolidWorks interface, which includes tools for modelling and documenting welded structures.
SolidWorks is a computer aided design program that uses a parametric, feature-based assembly system for building mechanical models. By learning the weldment palette, users can begin to design welded structures, including finishing items such as gussets and end caps. Students will also learn to create manufacturing documents, such as cut lists, that correspond to their models.
Infinite Skills' SolidWorks - Weldments Training Video offers in-depth, focused training for Solidworks users who need to learn more about this powerful module.

Course author Dean Kerste is a college professor with more than a decade of experience in industrial design and more twenty years experience as a professor in a mechanical design technology program. Kerste began his career as a draftsman detailing large industrial combustion systems for power generation and transitioning them into natural gas distribution systems. After working as a CAD operator and systems administrator, Kerste began pursuing a career in academics, he holds multiple degrees, including a bachelors in industrial design and a doctorate in high education.
Kerste draws from his experience as both an educator and an industrial designer to simplify the complex techniques and concepts involved with learning weldments, while ensuring that the course content focuses on features that are essential to a mechanical engineer's workflow.
The course starts off exploring structural members, showing how to create and group them, and how to fit members with corners and trimming. Kerste then moves on by showing how to work with both 2D and 3D sketches in the weldments palette, before covering how to add features like plates, end caps, and gussets to finish a welded structure.
Other chapters include a lesson on symmetry, using cut lists, adding a weld bead, and creating sub-weldments, among other topics.
The course concludes with a chapter devoted to the SolidWorks advanced weldments certification exam, where Kerste includes four lessons on the content of the exam, offers multiple strategies for preparation, and provides a practice exam.
"My passion is teaching SolidWorks," Kerste says. "This course will ensure that, after completing the lessons, you will be proficients in SolidWorks weldments, and you will see that work in this environment is not only intuitive and user-friendly, it is also fun."
