Greenberg Traurig Expands Financial Regulatory and Compliance Practice, Adds Brett Kitt from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
WASHINGTON, DC (PRWEB) September 24, 2013 -- Brett M. Kitt has joined the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP as of counsel in the firm’s financial regulatory and compliance practice. Kitt joins from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB or Bureau) and will be based out of Greenberg Traurig’s Washington, DC office.
Kitt will focus his practice on consumer financial regulatory matters, including CFPB examinations, civil investigative demands, enforcement actions and related regulatory compliance. He will also advise clients on the legal status, organizational structure and operational authorities of the CFPB, the U.S. Department of the Treasury (Department) and other governmental agencies.Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig, Kitt served as senior counsel in the Office of General Counsel at the CFPB. He worked at the CFPB since its inception to help build out the Bureau and its various offices and programs, and to draft its policies and regulations. His experience includes interpreting Dodd-Frank provisions impacting consumer finance firms and representing the Bureau in litigation and Congressional oversight matters. While at the CFPB, he was a leader in the development of the Bureau’s regulations, policies, systems and agreements regarding the privacy of consumer information and the confidential treatment of the Bureau’s supervisory, law enforcement, and marketing monitoring information and data.
Kitt previously was counsel at the Department, where he defended the Department in litigation and Congressional oversight matters stemming from the financial crisis. He also advised on matters related to the legal status, organizational structure and operational authorities of the Department and other agencies, including the Financial Stability Oversight Commission and the Office of Financial Research.

Kitt earned his B.A. cum laude from Tufts University, and his J.D. from Georgetown University School of Law.
