Better Together: Two Colorado Springs Area Churches Buck the Church Split Trend and Merge
Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) September 25, 2013 -- Tri-Lakes Chapel (Monument) and The Gathering (Northgate area) have merged the two congregations into a single church with multiple locations and have adopted The Ascent Church as the new church name. On October 6, 2013, The Ascent Church (http://www.TheAscentChurch.com) will launch its Sunday service schedule at its multiple campuses. Service times will be 8:15am, 9:30am and 11:00am at The Ascent Church|Woodmoor campus located at 1750 Deer Creek Road, Monument, CO 80132. The Ascent Church|Northgate campus is currently meeting at The Classical Academy (TCA), 975 Stout Road, Colorado Springs, 80921 with a worship service time of 9:30am.
In an era where church splits seem to happen all the time, the leadership of both Northern Colorado Springs congregations saw an opportunity to make a positive impact within the community by joining together. Conversations about the possibility of a merger began in December of last year when Ed Rowell, lead pastor of Tri-Lakes Chapel, and Mike Worley, lead pastor of The Gathering, were meeting over coffee to catch-up on a long-standing friendship. Both pastors were sharing their experiences in searching for property for their respective churches and a question arose as to whether the two congregations might be better together. A video capturing more of the story is viewable at: http://vimeo.com/64832137 and a feature story about the merger is available at: http://vid.us/28dfy.
The leadership of both churches began meeting and through several months of detailed due diligence the opportunity for two like-minded churches to have a greater impact on the community became very evident. Ed Rowell, Lead Pastor of The Ascent Church said, “The opportunity for our merged church to reach more families, in more neighborhoods with a clear desire to establish genuine biblical community on every street in the northern Colorado Springs community was affirmed by both congregations voting to merge. We are excited to see where God takes us on this journey.”
On Sunday mornings, the two campuses have full nursery and children’s classes, and four service times with plans for a fifth service to be added at the Northgate campus. Ed Rowell will serve as the Lead Pastor and Mike Worley will serve as Missions Pastor, with the vast majority of each church staff being retained in their roles serving the nearly 600 families that attend the newly merged, multi-campus church now known as The Ascent Church.
