AFP Leads 24-Group Coalition Against Wind Subsidies
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) September 24, 2013 -- Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s largest free-market grassroots organization, has written an open letter urging members of Congress to vote against extending wind-energy tax credits (PTC). Twenty-three organizations have joined AFP in its letter, simultaneously calling on the federal government to stop interfering in the energy market.

“This year, Congress should do the right thing by opposing extending the PTC, like it did in January’s Fiscal Cliff package,” said Christine Harbin Hanson, federal affairs manager for Americans for Prosperity. “We saw last year how special interest lobbying and brinkmanship led to another year of handouts for the wind industry. Congress should learn from its past mistakes and oppose extending the PTC.”
“The wind energy industry clearly has little to show for 20 years of tax breaks. Congress should cut its losses and end this wasteful handout for the wind industry once and for all,” Hanson continued. “U.S. energy policy should be based on energy technologies that can make it in the marketplace without special favors from the government.”
When the PTC was last scheduled to expire at the end of 2012, Congress added a PTC extension into the Fiscal Cliff deal at the 11th hour after the wind energy lobby engaged in a flurry of lobbying activity. Now, as the scheduled expiration approaches at the end of 2013, Congress is poised to repeat history by extending the PTC yet again.
