Businesses such as garages can receive high volumes of traffic on their premises throughout the day and night so it is important that CCTV has been installed to effectively monitor the complex.

Police have released CCTV images featuring two men wearing black hooded clothing following the theft, reports the Eastbourne Herald in the article ‘CCTV Released of Thieves who Broke into Cash Machine at Eastbourne Garage’ on September 20.

CCTV footage shows a pair of individuals spending several hours allegedly attempting to take money from the cash machine at a Tesco Express garage between 2am and 5am on July 27. CCTV allegedly shows that when traffic approached, the individuals moved away from the cash machine before continuing in their attempts to open it. CCTV also shows the individuals using a metal bar to allegedly break open the cash machine and removing the bank notes contained inside.

PC Kelley Matthews told the Eastbourne Herald that:

“CCTV footage shows that the two men repeatedly left and returned to the machine over a period of several hours until they managed to get it open and stole thousands of pounds. We would like to speak to any drivers who pulled onto the forecourt in the early hours of July 27 and may have seen the men acting suspiciously. Others may have been the men standing nearby and acting suspiciously in the moments between their attempts to get it open.”

Experts in CCTV security systems, AlertSystems recognise the importance of the presence of CCTV in businesses such as garages and forecourts or those which hold large sums of money. A representative for the company offered their comments:

“Businesses such as garages can receive high volumes of traffic on their premises throughout the day and night so it is important that CCTV has been installed to effectively monitor the complex. If cash machines are also located on the premises, the presence of a CCTV security system can be vital in protecting the machine. If a crime does occur, the CCTV can help police identify the course of events, while the footage can also help them appeal for more information from witnesses.”
