The Mirena IUD, manufactured by Bayer, is an intrauterine device (IUD) that is inserted into the uterus as a contraceptive method.

On August 27, a North Carolina woman filed a lawsuit in Illinois Southern District Court (case no. 3:2013cv10796) alleging that she suffered serious complications from her Mirena IUD. In the lawsuit, the plaintiff claims that her Mirena IUD migrated and perforated her uterus; surgical removal of the device was required.
